Indian president presents 8 areas of cooperation with Republic of the Philippines
INDIAN President APJ Abdul Kalam has vowed to pursue eight areas of cooperation with the Philippines, including modernizing the electoral system and increasing trade and business between the two countries in the next three years.
Here are some areas of cooperation:
· Sharing India's experience in modernizing the election system and providing necessary technology tools.
· Increasing business and trade between India and Philippines from the present 577 million dollars to two billion dollars within the next three years.
· Making available pharmaceutical products (general medicines) to citizens of the Philippines at affordable prices through market development and establishing joint ventures in the Philippines through the Indian Pharmaceutical Industry.
· Facilitating the setting up of small-medium scale enterprises (SMEs) in the Philippines for production and marketing of farm and agri-implements needed for increasing the productivity of agricultural communities.
· Developing and marketing knowledge products in the international market through innovations by the software specialists of India and the Philippines.
· Assisting in the establishment of a coastal and a Hill PURA (Providing Urban amenities in Rural Areas) in specific areas selected by the Philippine government.
· Assisting in the creation of cooperative structures on business lines for dairy development, animal husbandry, poultry and marketing, and facilitating the availability of large numbers of high yield variety of buffalos; and
· Realizing energy independence assistance in establishing Jatropha farms, extraction units, and esterification.
