CEED prep weekend

I had an awesome time this past weekend. Since it was CEED prep weekend, the other CEEDers came in from across the country and we all got a chance to meet. Not only that, but great times talking about the tree of knowledge, teasing Pnut and also, we can't forget- Reflection and Venting... Reflection and Venting!! Good times, good times :)

This just in...CEED 2006

Tetris a classic??!

I spent the morning playing and hanging out with my nephews. I picked up their Gameboy and the following occurs:

Me: "What game do you have?"
Kyle: "Pokemon Leafgreen version."
Me: "Don't you have tetris?"
Kyle: "Tetris?!! That's only if you have Arcade Classic!"
Me: "What do you mean Arcade Classic!?"

Kyle: "..or the Retro games!"
Me: "Retro?!?!?" That's what I used to play on Gameboy back in grade 4!"
Kyle: "Grade 4?!! Whoa!!! That's soooo long ago!"
Me: "What?! No it's not..."

It goes on for a bit of me explaining to my 11 year old nephew how it really isn't that long ago and how I can't believe Tetris is now considered a classic retro game. Oh my!-- definite signs that I'm aging when my nephews tell me that the games I grew up with are considered "Retro". *sigh*

Staying Connected... Everywhere!

Wow- the city of Toronto is planning to make it so that for most places in and around of the city, it will be possible for people to have a connection to the internet. Wireless signal everywhere! Can you imagine having internet wherever you are in the city-- on the park bench, at a bus stop or even while waiting in line at the store...WiFi-- apparently coming to Tdot soon.

"Toronto Hydro Corp. is expected to announce plans to bring "municipal Wireless-Fidelity" (WiFi for short) to Toronto. It's a mesh of radio signals that can blanket an entire city, giving subscribers wireless Internet access virtually anywhere."
"WiFi receiving and transmitting units will be mounted on items of urban furniture, like street lamps or pay phones. They'll pick up radio waves carrying the Internet and pass them on from street lamp to street lamp. The waves will course up and down every street in the city, through parks, schoolyards, markets and pool halls. Subscribers will surf the Internet on a park bench or in a shopping mall."

Self Reflection

I was recently at a seminar-- and this is one of the things that we had reflected upon. In a lot of ways it's a very true statement. I mean, how many of us go through our days with blinders on. When all we really care to remember about is whom we interacted with that particular day that we NEEDED to talk to or meet. Would you really remember whom you sat next to on the bus, or who had opened that door for you.
This statement can also be taken to another level-- what do we do in our everyday lives that is not for us-- but rather, a selfish act for others; to know, or even better, to fully become aware that others exist.

Johnny Live!

I was very enticed when I had been told about John Legend's DVD-- and so just after my eye check-up today, I went next door to the music store and bought John Legend's Live at the House of Blues DVD!

I would definitely consider John Legend's music to be very refreshing amidst the plethora of rap/hip hop galore. A very talented individual who does seem to put a lot of soul and sentiment into his music. I knew all this before, but just witnessing his concert again and again-- absolutely incredible.

I could definitely go on and on but the only way to truly understand my obsession about him is to witness or hear him firsthand.

(Credit goes out to Emily Jones who made a mention of his House Of Blues DVD :)
